John left school at the age of 16 to work as an apprentice at a local forging company. A qualified mechanical engineer he moved into the rotating machinery / turbine business in 1986. He worked mainly in marketing, sales and business strategy roles. John spent two years in the late 1990’s in Aberdeen running a workshop and service centre for customers with turbines operating in the UK North Sea. In 2003, when Siemens acquired the turbine business from Alstom, John moved across to Germany to work on the business integration and strategy. For the last six years he has worked in a corporate Siemens UK role managing the whole Siemens business portfolio within the UK power generation and distribution business for selected large utility customers.
John has been involved with the University of Lincoln for around ten years with my earliest engagement in the team that worked collaboratively to establish the Engineering School. He has worked as an Advisory Board member for the Business School since 2009.
John is married with three children. Interests outside work include following football and cycling.
