In-sessional Support

Studying at a university can be challenging, which is why the English Language Centre (ELC) offers a range of in-sessional support to help you during your time here in Lincoln. The ELC tutors are experts in English language teaching and learning and will help you gain confidence in communicating effectively in your academic studies. All services offered by the ELC are only available to the students whose first language is not English.

The Lincoln English Language Assessment (LELA)

All students registering with the English Language Centre must complete a short assessment called the Lincoln English Language Assessment (LELA).  This will help determine which in-sessional courses will be most helpful to them.

Please note that this assessment is only taken once and remains valid for the duration of the student’s time at the University of Lincoln.

Further information about the LELA is available on the English Language Centre website.

Courses

The University’s English Language Centre offers a range of free courses to current students.  Once students have completed the LELA, they can register for courses such as:

Drop-In (One-to-one support)

If you need individual help with any English language problem, the ELC’s Drop-in service is the perfect place to go.  The experienced English for Academic Purposes (EAP) tutors offer individual consultations to help you with a variety of English language issues.

Please note, this is not a proof-reading or an editing service but the tutor can show you how to improve your writing.

Also note that since mid-March 2020 Drop-in sessions have moved online.

For further information and to book an appointment visit the English Language Centre website.
