What to bring to university

Below is a handy checklist of items to bring with you. Don’t worry if you forget anything, you should be able to find everything you need from nearby shops and supermarkets.

What’s included varies depending on the accommodation you live in. Check with your accommodation provider if you are unsure of anything.


For enrolment:

  • Photo ID (passport, full or provisional driving licence)
  • Enrolment ticket
  • Proof of tuition fee payment (if you're not paying through the Student Loans Company)
  • NHS registration form


Personal items:

  • TV licence (if you want to bring your own TV to watch in your room)
  • National Insurance number
  • NHS number
  • Bedding; you may need to bring your own pillows and duvet 
  • Items for your bedroom such as photos, personal items
  • Laptop/PC/tablet (check with your accommodation provider for details)
  • Towels
  • Coat hangers
  • Laundry basket/bag and washing powder
  • Pens, pencils, notebooks, USB stick
  • Utensils, cutlery, crockery, pans and oven-proof dishes
  • Tea towels, washing up liquid and a dishcloth
  • Recipes
  • Food and drinks to keep you going until your first supermarket visit.
