Cost: £935 (includes tuition & exam fee)
Dates (2017):

December 4th, 5th & 6th

Exam:

December 15th

This course is aimed at advisers, farm and land managers who are involved in recycling of organic materials to agricultural land (e.g. producers of compost and anaerobic digestate and those involved with sludge operations).

Food wastes, effluent treatment sludge and other liquids are recycled to agricultural land which provides agricultural benefit through the addition of treatments. This module will examine the different types of non-livestock organic manures and wastes, their nutrient value and their practical application to land. As with all materials applied in an agricultural or horticultural setting, candidates will be expected to have an awareness of environmental issues and quality standards and protocols.

The subject areas covered will include the following:

  • Non-livestock manures and wastes as nutrient sources.
  • Application of manures and waste to land.
  • Environmental issues associated with manures and wastes.
  • Quality standards and protocols.
  • Relevant codes and regulations.

The course is assessed by means of an examination paper containing 10 short answer questions, of which candidates are required to answer 6.  In addition there will be a separate viva discussion of approximately 20 minutes per candidate.
