Youth Sport Research Group

The Youth Sport Research (YSR) group is focused on research which aims to understand the sport and PE experiences of young people.

What are we Doing?

We are researching the sport and physical education experiences of young people. This is primarily through engaging in research which examines policy making and practice in youth sport and PE settings. This includes the following themes, youth sport & PE policy; inclusion within youth sport & PE practices; and pedagogy within school and youth sport settings.

Why is it important?

Increasing our understanding of the experiences of young people in sport and physical education environments allows us to plan, construct and deliver more relevant, inclusive and meaningful sport and physical education. This can inform both policy and practice to improve the quality of provision and increase the potential for PE and Sport to positively impact on children throughout the life.

How are we different?

We are a team of researcher and practitioners with diverse interests and expertise, this allows us to take a multi-disciplinary approach to and utilise a range of appropriate methods.
