The Lincoln International Business School MBA comprises core and elective modules which aim to connect classroom learning with real organisations. The core modules are designed to build the skills every global manager needs, whilst the elective modules and dissertation provide an opportunity to specialise.

Lectures and seminars offer the chance to engage and discuss the fundamentals of global business and leadership through workshops and group tutorials. There is flexibility in the scheduling of our timetable that allows class activities, as well as group and independent study.

The project module is designed to provides an introduction to consultancy. Students can engage with a client to conduct a piece of research, relevant to their situation and career aspirations. Students have previously lead Live Consultancy Projects with a number of high profile organisations such as Siemens, British Steel, Dynex, and the YMCA.

The Lincoln International Business School MBA includes leadership development activities as well as negotiation workshops as part of the modules offered in blocks. Through membership of LIBS Connect, students will be able to attend guest lectures from industry speakers and leaders. Previous guest speakers have included University Chancellor Lord Adebowale CBE, BBC Trustee and Non-Executive Director Suzanna Taverne, and the Chief Executive of Siemens pcl Juergen Maier.

MBA study involves a significant proportion of independent study, exploring the material covered in lectures and seminars. As a general guide, for every hour in class students are expected to spend two - three hours in independent study. Taught modules normally have 36 contact hours (lectures, seminars and workshops) per term.


The programme is structured to support work placement experience during your study. Students will be encouraged to apply for a short work placement during the academic year.

Please note that students are required to cover their own accommodation, travel, and general living expenses while undertaking a placement.

The Group Consultancy Project module is designed to expose students to a real-world experience and business issues. You will have the chance to develop consultancy skills which can also have a positive impact on your CV and demonstrable work experience to also support career advancement.

This module will examine global supply chain strategies in detail by looking at both those strategies that have been successful as well as those that have been less successful. Students can examine contemporary phenomena such as offshoring, supply chain disruptions, innovation and sustainability using a variety of theoretical frameworks. Students can develop not only a better understanding of the challenges of managing global supply chains but also of some of the tools needed to implement effective and responsible global supply chain strategies. Given the strategic importance of global supply chains, an understanding of how to manage them strategically may be invaluable for students entering the job market.

This module is intended to give a basic introduction to financial accounting and financial management to enable managers to employ financial tools for decision making. It covers diverse areas such as management accounting, pure finance and accounting and is intended to acquaint a non-specialist with financial managerial skills. Managerial finance commences with basic techniques for costing and break-even analysis and brings in the notion of pricing from a larger viewpoint, namely the market as well as from a strategic management view. Later it touches on financial analysis and budgeting and planning. It then moves on to analysing the sources of finance.

The MBA Dissertation project (Core)

The dissertation provides an opportunity to carry out a substantive research project and a platform to demonstrate the ability to investigate and reflect critically on an aspect of business or management theory or practice.

It is designed to allow students to work as an organisational or academic researcher: idea generation, selecting a suitable topic, designing methodology, collecting & analysing data and discussing the findings. The dissertation project aims to have both a practical value as a piece of management research and also be of academic value by combining well-developed theoretical and methodological foundations.

This means that the availability of specific optional modules cannot be guaranteed. Optional module selection may also be affected by staff availability.

This course provides you with the opportunity to develop an understanding of a specific topic in lectures and seminars before presenting your findings and opinions on given questions at the end of each module.

All taught modules will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods, including essays, examinations, projects, oral presentations and simulation games. These assessments are designed to develop skills that can be useful for your career.

For the MBA Dissertation, students will have the opportunity to produce a research focussed dissertation of 15,000 – 18,000 words.

The University of Lincoln's policy on assessment feedback aims to ensure that academics will return in-course assessments to you promptly – usually within 15 working days after the submission date.

Postgraduate Master's Loan can help with course fees and living costs while you study. Individuals** will be able to borrow up to £10,906 for the purpose of completing an eligible postgraduate Master's qualification. The amount available will depend on the start date of your course.

- £10,906, if your course starts on or after 1 August 2019
- £10,609, if your course starts between 1 August 2018 and 31 July 2019


As a postgraduate student you may be eligible for scholarships in addition to those shown above.

Fees for enrolment on additional modules

Tuition fees for additional activity are payable by the student/sponsor and charged at the equivalent £ per credit point rate for each module. Additional activity includes:

- Enrolment on modules that are in addition to the validated programme curriculum

- Enrolment on modules that are over and above the full credit diet for the relevant academic year

- Retakes of modules as permitted by the Board of Examiners

Exceptionally tuition fees may not be payable where a student has been granted a retake with approved extenuating circumstances.

Other Costs

For each course you may find that there are additional costs. These may be with regard to the specific clothing, materials or equipment required, depending on your course.

With regards to text books, the University provides students who enrol with a comprehensive reading list and you will find that our extensive library holds either material or virtual versions of the core texts that you are required to read. However, you may prefer to purchase some of these for yourself and you will be responsible for this cost.

A minimum 2:2 honours degree and relevant work experience.

It is expected that students will have a minimum of two years relevant work experience.

In addition, students whose first language is not English are required to have an English Language qualification of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

This course is taught in the award-winning David Chiddick Building, which is situated in the centre of the city of Lincoln on the Brayford campus. It provides dedicated teaching and learning spaces and comprises lecture theatres, workshop rooms, IT laboratories and a café. Software including SAGE is available for you to use, as well as SPSS, Datastream (the source of financial and economic data), and

Students can study and research in the University's Great Central Warehouse Library, which provides more than 250,000 printed books and approximately 400,000 electronic books and journals, as well as databases and specialist collections. The Library has a range of different spaces for shared and individual learning.
