Gemma Carter Biography

I completed my undergraduate study within Sport and exercise Science at the University of Lincoln in 2006 and in January 2007 I joined the School of Sport, Coaching and Exercise Science as a Sport Science Instructor. In 2010 after a further 2 years of study I completed my PGCE in Higher Education and later gained accreditation and fellowship from the HEA. On most days of the week you will find me in the Human Performance Centre teaching sports biomechanics to our undergraduate students. Outside of work my big passion is both playing and coaching netball. I currently hold a level 2 netball coaching qualification and coach and play for Lincoln City who play in the Regional 1 league.

Research

My main research interests lie within the area of performance analysis and in particular within netball at regional level and above. I have recently been involved in the multi skills academy and playground research, looking into physical activity within the playground at key stage 2.

Consultancy

Physiological and biomechanical support to athletes from a variety of sports. Run multi-skills workshops, GCSE and A-Level sport science specific workshops.

Teaching Areas

I teach on both the Sport and Exercise Science programme and the Sport Development and coaching mainly teaching within the areas of biomechanics and performance analysis. I deliver the practical laboratory sessions for these modules across years 1 and 2 of undergraduate study. I have also taught within the area of sport and exercise physiology and coaching.
