Alex BlackettBiography

Before arriving at the University in January 2010, I studied as an undergraduate at Manchester Metropolitan University gaining a BA(Hons). Coinciding with my studies I worked for Stoke City Football Club’s Community Programme, working in a variety of sports development initiatives along with coaching their Women’s first and reserve teams. Before academia, I lived in New Zealand where I coached on the International Player Development Programme for the Bay of Plenty Eastern Representative soccer teams as well as coaching in the United States.

Currently, I am studying a part-time PhD that focuses on the learning paradigms embedded within sociological concepts of the transition between elite athletes moving into elite coaching positions and the impact this has on continued professional development within their vocational practices.
