Peter has a background in housing practice and in research on housing and social policy. He has been responsible for major research projects in the field of 'race' and housing, including Career Opportunities for Ethnic Minorities in the North West (1998) for the National Housing Federation and Housing Corporation, Building Equality in Black and Minority Ethnic Employment (2000) for the Housing Corporation, and Building Racial and Sexual Equality in the Construction Industry (2001) for DETR. He has also been responsible for numerous research projects in the field of resident involvement and empowerment, including research into Estate Agreements for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (1993-5), into the Right to Manage for the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (1996-7), into Community Control for the Housing Corporation (2001-2), and into the Future of Community Governance for the Economic and Social Research Council (2005-2006). He has conducted research into many social issues, such as homelessness, substance misuse, police reform, community safety, migration and youth offending - for a wide variety of funding organisations.
