Quality Assurance in Medical Regulation in an International Context - July 2006 (PDF 3880Kb)
This report was commissioned by the Chief Medical Officer's Advisory Group, to review the mechanisms for quality assurance and medical regulation across a number of states, including how doctors' continuing competence is assessed and maintained, how poor practice is detected, and what action is taken.

Lincolnshire Homeless Strategies - October 2004 (PDF 387Kb)
In June 2003 the Policy Studies Research Centre at the University of Lincoln was commissioned by the Lincolnshire County Homelessness Strategy Subgroup (LCHSS) to identify the support needs of those categories of homeless persons in Lincolnshire who fall under the umbrella of ‘Supporting People’ policy (young people; older people; people with mental health or learning disability issues; victims of domestic violence; substance misusers; and ex-offenders). This report summarises the findings of the research.

An Evaluation of the Children's Funds Projects In Lincolnshire - August 2004 (PDF 732Kb)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the activities of the Children’s Fund projects in Lincolnshire from the perspectives of the intended beneficiaries (i.e. children and their carers). The research focussed on stakeholders like children and their carers due to the fact that they are the direct users of the Children’s Fund projects. Uniquely, it incorporated training and support for service users and providers in evaluation techniques.

Evaluation of the Lincoln Crime & Disorder Reduction Strategy Year 2 - September 2003 (PDF 136Kb)
This report relates to the second year of the audit of crime prevention and reduction in the City of Lincoln. In this year, two main surveys were conducted: a postal survey of households in Lincoln and a telephone survey of businesses in Lincoln. The purpose of these surveys was to ascertain the experiences, perceptions and views of residents and employers in the City concerning issues and initiatives relating to crime.

Community Control: A Position Paper - August 2002 (PDF 286Kb)
This research outlines the position with regard to community control in England today. The picture is a complex and varied one, with many interesting and innovative developments. The literature identifies a number of approaches to community control - housing-based, asset-based, service-based, community investment, etc. However, the research shows that the list of possible options is much longer than that previously envisaged.

Homelessness Amongst Black & Minority Ethnic People - March 2002 (PDF 133Kb)
This research reviews the literature relating to BME homelessness, presents findings from the research into what needs to be done to tackle the problem, and draws conclusions about the nature of issues involved and areas for further research.

Lincolnshire Youth Crime Audit - May 2001 (PDF 4.69Mb)
The research on which this report is based was commissioned by the Youth Offending Service of Lincolnshire and the Lincolnshire Connexions Service. The aims of the research were to: gather raw data on youth offending in Lincolnshire, using a variety of sources such as police data from January 1998 onwards; analyse this data in terms of a age, gender; ethnicity, type of offence and number of offences per offender; review the youth crime aspects of the crime and disorder reduction strategies of the seven constituent District Councils of Lincolnshire; interview a cross-section of young offenders; and provide a structured report.

Research Projects:

Ongoing research on the House of Lords and welfare policy, funded by the Nuffield Foundation Small Grants Scheme (SGS/34825) . Since January 2008 we have interviewed 54 members of the House of Lords.

Three conference papers have been generated by this research (see below). One (‘A Less Expert House? The House of Lords and Welfare Policy’) has been submitted to the journal Parliamentary Affairs, and is currently under consideration.

Leverhulme Research Grant for research on Parliamentary Scrutiny of the Intelligence and Security Services. Submitted July 2008. Successfully through first round and asked to submit a more detailed proposal by December 2008.
