University partnership with Santander will bring new international scholarships to Lincoln
Professor Mary Stuart and Simon Bray sign the partnership The University of Lincoln and Santander have signed an agreement that will see staff and students benefit from a wealth of international scholarships and new research opportunities.

Under the new partnership, the University of Lincoln will join the Santander Universities network of more than 1,040 higher education institutes around the world, through which the bank provides funding for numerous activities including scholarships, travel grants and internship placements.

Lincoln is now part of the Santander Universities Global Division, which includes university partners in 20 countries. The network is an international group of universities with three common goals; internationalisation, transfer of knowledge and fostering of entrepreneurial skills.

The new partners have agreed an initial programme that will provide a number of exciting opportunities for staff and students up until 2016, with a total value of almost £150,000 over the next three years.

The Santander Universities network funds awards for outstanding students and projects, helps entrepreneurs with new business ideas and gives students the opportunity to travel abroad while continuing their studies.

The awards will be open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Lincoln from October 2013, and to staff undertaking research projects either in the UK or in countries which are part of the Santander network.

There will also be support offered to encourage Lincoln students to develop their entrepreneurial skills, with opportunities including annual ‘pitching’ events, interaction between promising entrepreneurs and industry experts and further business development support.

Speaking at the signing of the agreement, Professor Mary Stuart, Vice Chancellor at the University of Lincoln, said: “This is a great moment for the University. We are delighted to confirm our partnership with Santander Universities, as we share the same commitment to developing future leaders across the globe. The partnership brings with it valuable integration opportunities for our students and academics, who can look forward to developing world-leading research with fellow Santander partners. The agreement also provides student internship opportunities, which are extremely important for us here at Lincoln, where we are committed to supporting the future employability of our graduates.”

Simon Bray, Deputy Director Santander Universities UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome the University of Lincoln to the Santander Universities Global Division. The partnership will allow the university community to achieve new milestones and increase its contacts with international counterparts.”

The newly-signed agreement is expected to further stimulate partnerships between the University of Lincoln and other international universities and organisations within the network, through research collaborations, work placements and exchange programmes for students.

The Santander Universities Global Division has partnerships with universities in 20 countries: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, Ghana, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, United Arab Emirates, UK, Uruguay, and USA.
