Student journalists nominated for major media award
Josh Jackson & Jemma Coburn Two Lincoln School of Journalism students have been nominated for a national award that recognises excellence in the media portrayal of mental illness.

Jemma Coburn and Josh Jackson, third year students at the University of Lincoln, have been short-listed alongside The Guardian, BBC Radio 4’s You & Yours, Casualty and More 4 for the Mind Media Awards.

The pair will go head to head after clinching two out of the three nominations in the Student Journalist of the year category - Jemma for her short film Mental health: An investigation into discrimination and Josh for Suffering in silence.

Principal Lecturer in the School of Journalism Barnie Choudhury, said: “You just have to look at the list of other entries to see that these awards are taken very seriously by the media industry.

“It's a tremendous achievement and a first for the LSJ that we have two of the three short listed students. This is a great way to start our new academic year.”

Final judging of the shortlisted entries will take place this month and the winners of each category will be announced at the Mind Media Awards on Monday 28 November 2011 at BFI Southbank in London.
