Mercury nominee Florence and the Machine to play Engine Shed
Florence and the Machine Mercury Music Prize nominee Florence and the Machine is the latest headline act lined up to perform at Lincoln's Engine Shed.

The soul-inspired indie group, led by charismatic vocalist Florence Welch, will play at the venue on the University of Lincoln's Brayford campus on Friday 11 December.

Florence and the Machine has enjoyed a rapid rise to stardom and this week is one of the bookies' favourites to collect this year's Mercury Music Prize for debut album, Lungs.

The band, which performed at the Engine Shed on the NME Awards Tour 2009, has enthralled audiences at Glastonbury, T in the Park and the Reading and Leeds festivals. Earlier this year the band won the Critics Choice Award at the Brit Awards 2009.

The group's sound has been likened to artists ranging from Kate Bush to Nick Cave.

Lungs was released in July 2009 and peaked at number two in the UK album chart, behind Michael Jackson.

Tickets for Florence and the Machine at the Engine Shed go on sale at 9am on Friday 11 September.

Priced £15 advance, they are available from www.engineshed.co.uk, 0844 888 8766 and the Engine Shed and LPAC Box Office, which is open Monday to Friday from 10am-4pm, as well as HMV Lincoln.

The event is for people aged 16 and over and doors are at 7pm.
