New Beginning for Mature Graduate

It is a new start for mature student Eric Coates who is graduating with a First Class honours degree in Web Technology from the University of Lincoln.

Eric is graduating on Thursday 6 September at The Guildhall in Hull. After many years working and lecturing in electronics, he decided it was time to move on.

“It was something I had always wanted to do,” said Eric. “Embarking on a degree is one of those things you feel you have inside you but you just have not got the time. Then, when I had finished lecturing in electronics, I thought why not go for it?

“I had already done some photography and audio visual work as well as computer programming so Web Technology seemed to fit the skills I had. I did wonder at first whether I would be able to handle the work but just got on with the job and came out with a First!

“I enjoyed the course, the work and the students and made some very good friends.”

Already a glowing advert for lifelong learning, Eric is now considering a postgraduate course.

Eric’s search for further higher education is now combined with a burgeoning digital photography career – he is exhibited widely throughout Yorkshire and Humberside –while continuing work in website development.

“I really would urge anyone to become a mature student. Just do something you enjoy, do your best and the rest will fall into place.”

Hull graduation ceremonies will take place at The Guildhall at 10.30am and 2.30pm on Thursday 6 September.
