Some of the University of Lincoln’s finest designers will be exhibiting their work at the prestigious New Designers event in London.

New Designers is an annual event which takes place to promote the work of students by presenting the next generation of designers to the industry. Specifically chosen students studying for degrees in Contemporary Decorative Crafts and Furniture will exhibit work at the Business Design Centre, London in July.

The designs on display will vary from glass, precious metalwork, jewellery, new media and contemporary applied arts to furniture, architecture and graphics. The exhibition takes place in two parts. Students from Contemporary Decorative Crafts will exhibit from the 5th to 8th July and Furniture students will exhibit from the 12th to 15th July.

Neil Simpson, senior lecturer in Design, said: “It is the foremost national exhibition of student work, with over 4000 students exhibiting. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to get their work seen in a setting where many of the top names in design visit to seek out recruits for their design teams.”

Denise Hoad specialises in stone carving. She said: “I think this is a wonderful chance for my work to be seen by a large and varied audience, as a graduate getting my work seen by people in the industry is of major importance to me. New Designer is providing me with such a great opportunity.”

Laura Mabbutt specialises in felt designs. She said: “Being chosen to exhibit at New Designers is a massive opportunity for me. I have exhibited my work before but never on such a scale or at such a prestigious event. My work will be seen by people from all over the world, opportunities don’t happen like this very often and I am going to make the most of it.”
