FASHION STUDENT WINS BRIDAL DESIGN AWARD

A University of Lincoln student has been named as Best Student Designer of the Year at the national Bridal Buyer Awards for her designs of a wedding dress.

Gemma Steel is a third year student studying for BA (Hons) Fashion Studies. She won the prestigious award against excellent national competition from universities across the UK.

The Bridal Buyer Awards is a national competition for designers, manufacturers, retailers and students organised by Bridal Buyer magazine. The competition took place at the Harrogate Bridal Wear Exhibition.

The Harrogate Bridal Exhibition is the largest in Europe and it attracts people from the industry world wide.

Gemma exhibited her garment design for the duration of the four day exhibition. Fellow University of Lincoln students Zac Girdlestone and Robyn Kaye also exhibited their designs at the exhibition.

Gemma’s work was judged by a panel of retailers, designers, manufacturers and members of the bridal press. The high profile award ceremony was star studded with celebrities and leaders in the industry.

Carol Brown, Principal Lecturer in Design, said: “We are very proud of Gemma winning this prestigious award. The winning garment was individual, stunning and beautifully manufactured. Zac and Robyn were also successful in exhibiting impressive work. We congratulate all three students for their dedication and hard work.”
