University of Lincoln students will be facing the elements as they take part in a 38 mile sponsored walk from Nottingham to Lincoln.

Ten third year Fine Art students are doing the sponsored walk to raise money for their end of year degree show catalogue. The walk will start on Friday 2nd March (this week).

So far the students have raised around £1000 in sponsorship for the walk, making it a major contributor towards the total of £5000 that they need to raise for their end of year degree show catalogue.

The group of ten males are getting the train to Nottingham on Friday morning and starting the walk at about 10.30am. They are planning to stay in Newark overnight on the way back and they predict it will take no longer than two and a half days.

There are 54 students completing their third year in Fine Art, all of whom will benefit from the sponsorship as the catalogue will include all of their work.

Alan Armstrong, a Fine Art student taking part in the walk, said: "Every year raising money for the degree show is a challenge, so we wanted to do something that was different from the normal fundraising activities, something that would capture our sponsors’ interest and hopefully in return raise lots of money.

“We wanted to do something that said something about where we are, so we thought what better than to walk from a neighbouring city back to our university, as Fine Art students we’re not particularly known for our athletic ability so we realise it’s going to be a challenge”.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the University Of Lincoln’s Fine Art degree show will have their business publicised in the catalogue. For more information please contact Alan Armstrong by emailing alanarmstrong4@hotmail.co.uk
