Two University of Lincoln public policy experts have written a book on welfare policy and reform under New Labour.

The book is entitled ‘Welfare policy under New Labour: Views from inside Westminster’. It is based on a series of in-depth interviews with MPs and peers from across Parliament.

Hugh Bochel is Professor of Public Policy and Andrew Defty is a Research Fellow for the University of Lincoln. Their recent book examines the views of Parliament on welfare policy the reforms adopted and developed by the Labour government.

The extensive research draws upon interviews with 76 MPs to examine their attitudes to welfare and to compare MPs’ and public attitudes to welfare. It also assesses MPs’ influence on welfare policy and the changing role of the House of Lords regarding welfare issues.

Welfare reform is a topical issue within government and the media and has been the subject of much debate recently.

The book will be invaluable to academics, social policy students and professionals working in social care and welfare.

The book will be available from 3rd January 2007 and can be ordered from www.policypress.org.uk.
