27th November 2006

The new student health centre and student services facilities at the University of Lincoln are to be officially opened tomorrow (Tuesday).

Ursula Lidbetter, Chief Executive of the Lincolnshire Co-operative, will be guest of honour at the ceremony at 12 noon on Tuesday 28th November.

The Lincolnshire Co-operative provided £350,000 worth of funding to enable the facilities to be developed at the Brayford Pool campus.

Among those attending the event will be Judith Carey, Director of Student Services at the university, and Professor David Chiddick, Vice Chancellor.

After a buffet lunch guests will have an opportunity to tour the student health centre and student services building.

The facilities provide a health centre for students staffed by NHS professionals and an integrated student services department in the same building.

Speaking on behalf of the Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust, Mr Philip Mould, Assistant Director of Strategic Planning, said: “This new health centre is the result of a lot of hard work which has been achieved through the good working relationship between the NHS and the University of Lincoln.

“We are really pleased that excellent health facilities will now be available to the student population.”

Ursula Lidbetter commented: “Our Co-op members committed £1 million to the university back in 1995 and we were delighted to be able to hand over the latest element of that funding in support of the student health centre development.

“The experience of students at our university is enhanced by the way in which they are supported in their health and wellbeing. The new student services centre will be at the heart of that support.”

Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend.
