GUINNESS WORLD RECORD CHALLENGE TO RAISE MONEY FOR LINCOLN CANCER UNIT

Simon Kent (40) will be attempting to break two Guinness World records at the University of Lincoln on Wednesday 15th November 2006 at 2.00pm to raise money for the Cancer Unit at Lincoln County Hospital.

Simon is a former patient at the Cancer Unit and has now fully recovered from testicular cancer. He will be raising money for the unit through sponsorship of the World Record Challenges.

The first world record attempt will be to achieve the maximum number of triceps dips on a static bar in 60 seconds. The current record is 160 dips, set by Simon himself in July 2004.

The second world record attempt will be to achieve the maximum number of press-ups in 60 seconds. The current world record for this is 144 press-ups and is also currently held by Simon.

Mistrelle Baker, Senior Lecturer in Sports Science and Exercise Science at the University of Lincoln is providing Simon Kent with expert support for training for the challenge.

“Simon has trained hard this year and he has really enjoyed it, all indications are showing that he will achieve the set challenge and we are all really excited about it,” said Mistrelle Baker.

Visitors are invited to come along at 1.30pm to the new Sport Performance Centre at the university to take part in fitness tests and watch the attempt at the world record. Visitors will also have the opportunity to challenge Simon Kent themselves.
