The Principal of Bishop Grosseteste College will be the guest of honour at one of the University of Lincolnís graduation ceremonies next week.


Professor Muriel Robinson will attend a ceremony at Lincoln Cathedral on Wednesday 13th September to receive an honorary Doctorate of Letters from the university.


Since being awarded her BEd in English and Education in 1976 and getting her first job in a London primary school, Professor Robinson has worked in schools as well as in further and higher education.


In 1984 she was seconded to Avery Hill College as a Teacher Fellow and in1985 she became a lecturer at Brighton Polytechnic, rising to Deputy Head of the School of Education at Brighton University in 1998.


From Brighton she moved to Newman College of Higher Education to become Vice Principal and since 2003 she has been Principal of Bishop Grosseteste College.


Since joining Bishop Grosseteste College she has played a very active role within the city and the county. She is a member of the Lincoln Cathedral Council, the Board of Governors of Lincoln Christís Hospital School, the Lincolnshire Assembly and the Lincolnshire Assembly Executive Committee.


Professor Robinson was instrumental in setting up the partnership between the college, the university, the Diocese of Lincoln and Lincoln Cathedral which created the Lincoln School of Theology and Ministry Studies in 2004.


During her career she has been awarded an MA in Language and Literature in Education and a PhD from the University of London. She has also published widely and given many conference papers and invited lectures, both in English and French.


Professor Robinson will receive her honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Lincoln during the undergraduate awards ceremony at Lincoln Cathedral beginning at 7.30pm on Wednesday 13th September.
