UNIVERSITY GRADUATION IS A FAMILY AFFAIR

A 47-year-old Drama student, whose daughter is currently studying the same course, is graduating from the University of Lincoln this year at the same time as her son.

Amanda Jepson-Trushell from Grimsby will graduate in Drama on Thursday 14th September at 10.30am less than two months after her son graduated from Lincoln College with a degree in Sports and Exercise Science.

Her daughter is currently in the second year of her degree in Drama at the University of Lincoln.

Despite all three being at university at the same time Amanda says her children have always been very supportive: “They’ve never had a problem with me deciding to go back to university and are actually quite proud of their mum. I stayed at home while they moved to Lincoln and my son studied his degree at the college rather than at the university so we were never stepping on each other’s toes.”

Amanda was inspired to go back to education by her friend who also enrolled on the Drama course. They’ve recently both been offered places at the East 15 Acting School in Essex.

According to Amanda deciding to go back to the classroom 28 years after leaving school wasn’t easy. “I was working as a cook at a nursery school at the time and although I’d always been interested in acting the thought of going to university had never crossed my mind,” said Amanda.

“I gave up my job and worked part-time to support myself. It was hard to get used to writing essays again and managing my time but the course lecturers were extremely helpful. Despite being almost 20 years younger than me the other students on my course were fantastic. I was their adopted university mum.”

“The best thing about doing a degree is the sense of achievement. I’m going to drama school in London in September which is something I’ve wanted to do since I was 18. After this I hope to find work as a professional actress and if there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s that you can’t predict the future so watch this space!”
