UNIVERSITY READY FOR A-LEVEL RESULTS DAY

The University of Lincoln is expecting around 8,000 calls next week from students who are anxious to secure a place at university for the coming year.

Students will receive their results on Thursday 17th August 2006, and those who have not managed to get a place at a university of their choice will get a second chance through the Clearing system.

Clearing is the final stage of the UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) applications process and exists to help students who are still without a place in higher education after receiving their results.

Around 80 academics and admissions staff will be staffing the University of Lincoln’s Clearing call centre for a week to take calls from students, answer their questions and offer places on courses starting in September 2005.

Students can call the clearing hotline number 01522 886622 at the following times:

Thursday 17th August                       8am to 8pm

Friday 18th August                             8am to 6pm

Saturday 19th August                        9.30am to 4.30pm

Sunday 20th August                           10.30am to 3.30pm

Monday 21st August onwards           Normal office hours 8.30am to 5pm

“A-level results day can be a worrying and stressful time for students and we do our best to make things easier for them by offering friendly and helpful advice,” said university spokesman Jez Ashberry.

“Students can call our team of advisers and know that they will be given the best possible chance to continue their education with us.”

Special open days are being arranged at the Brayford Pool campus in Lincoln on

Saturday 19th August (10am - 3pm) and on Tuesday 22nd August (10am - 3pm) and at the Hull School of Health and Social Care on Friday 18th August (1pm - 3pm).

There is no need to book – students can turn up on the day to have a look round.
