LINCOLN STUDENT WINS NATIONAL PR AWARD

A Public Relations student from the University of Lincoln has won the Chartered Institute of Public Relations CIPR Student Rep Award.

Steve Pembroke (23) from Chatham in Kent, who has just finished the second year of his PR degree course, won the award after co-organising an innovative PR networking event at the university.

The PR Speed Dating event in March aimed to develop links between the university and the public relations industry in the East Midlands to give students an insight into the world of PR and what career opportunities are available.

PR industry professionals attended the event and were visited by groups of students keen to pick their brains and make new contacts.

One of the aims of the event was to promote the CIPR within the university and increase student membership of the institute.

“The ‘speed dating’ event  gave PR students an opportunity to meet local public relations practitioners,” said Frank Davies, course leader for the PR degree course at Lincoln.

“It was a creative and enterprising initiative that was greatly appreciated by students on the Public Relations course.

“Winning the award is a considerable accolade for Stephen. All the CIPR-accredited courses are represented in the award so Stephen won against very stiff competition.”
