HULL STUDENTS SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS

Students at the University of Lincoln in Hull are putting the final touches to their end of year shows which will get under way on Friday 12th May with the New Media degree show in the Derek Crothall Building on George Street.

The exhibition, which is a showcase of the best work produced by final-year New Media students, will open with a private viewing on 12th May followed by a public exhibition from 13th to 17th May. The exhibition will also be online from Friday 12th May at www.lineupthedots.lincoln.ac.uk.

Meanwhile students from the Hull School of Art and Design will be displaying their work in an exhibition in the Queens Gardens building from 12th – 19th May. This will include work from a range of courses including graphics, illustration, fine art and animation.

On the 13th May students from the Hull School of Media Technologies will be mingling with heads of industry at their end of year show in the Saville Lecture Theatre on George Street. As well as an exhibition of work there will be an awards ceremony for students and invited guests.

Five of the awards have been sponsored by local businesses. These are Propeller TV (Sky Channel 195) which is sponsoring the Moving Image Award, Eon Media which is sponsoring the Multimedia Award, BBC Raw Talent which is sponsoring the Audio Award and Interactive Social Media which is sponsoring the Interactive Social Media Award.

This is the first year that the university has held an awards ceremony. Organiser and lecturer in Media Technologies John Hamlin said it will give the students a chance to show off their talents.

“I’m very happy that so many businesses have come forward to support the university by sponsoring an award. Having their name linked to the prizes gives winning students added value to their degree,” said John.

“It takes our students work outside of the university and into a professional context which I hope will open up further employment opportunities.”
