Two Fashion Studies students from the University of Lincoln will be attending a prestigious award ceremony at the Mansion House in London after scooping first prize in a national student design competition.

Wendy Jeins from Lincoln and Jaime Lawn from Great Yarmouth entered the annual competition organised by the British Glove Association (BGA) along with hundreds of other students from across the UK.

Wendy, who won the Special Occasion category, created a design entitled ‘Liquid Gold’ - a pair of elbow-length bridal gloves in gold silk with gold brocade details.

Jaime’s design, a pair of sporting ladies’ driving gloves in turquoise leather, won the Winter Sports/Leisure category.

The pair have won a cash prize of £300 and a certificate. Wendy will also spend a week’s work experience with Dents of Warminster.

They will be presented with their prizes by Lord Wilson of Dinton, currently Master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, at a ceremony at the Mansion House in the City of London on 4th July.

According to Wendy it’s a great way to end to their degree course: “To have won such a popular competition and beaten off stiff competition from students from all over the UK including the prestigious London College of Fashion is a fantastic achievement for both of us.

“It would be a feather in the cap for the University of Lincoln if one of its students won an award but to have two winners in the same competition affirms the quality of the course. I hope this will help to kick-start to our careers in the fashion industry.”

Jaime said she was shocked when she found out she’d won: “I couldn’t believe it when our tutor made the announcement. It’s really satisfying to have your work recognised in this way and I’m really looking forward to the award ceremony in July.”
