The teaching of law in Lincoln is to be boosted at the end of this month by the launch of a new law school at the University of Lincoln.

The Lincoln Law School will be officially launched on the evening of Tuesday 25th April, when His Honour Judge Richard Jenkins will join Professor David Chiddick,  Vice Chancellor of the university, and Professor Richard Stone, Head of the law school, in a celebratory event.

Law has been taught at the Brayford Pool campus of the University of Lincoln since 1997. The Lincoln Law School offers a very popular undergraduate LLB programme as well as two masters courses and a one-year conversion course for non-law graduates.

The LLM in European Law has been commended by its external examiner as being at the ‘cutting edge’ of the subject and academics in the school are also developing a significant research profile.

“These developments are a tribute to the excellent work of our staff and an indication that the Lincoln Law School has a very bright future,” said Professor Stone.

“The change in status from a department to a law school is an appropriate way of acknowledging the range and strength of law provision which we offer.”

The school is setting up an advisory board chaired by His Honour Judge Richard Jenkins to assist in the development of the school and its relationship with the local legal profession.

The launch celebration will begin in the main academic building at Brayford Pool at 5.30pm on Tuesday 25th April with presentations by Professor Stone, Professor Chiddick and Judge Jenkins before concluding at 7.30pm.

The event will also be an opportunity for the law school to welcome its new Professor of Law, John Peysner, who will join the university from the Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University, in May.
