Public Relations students will be putting their questions to the professionals during a ‘speed-dating’ event organised by the University of Lincoln and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).

The event is being held in the university’s main academic building on the Brayford Pool Campus at 6.30pm on Thursday 30th March 2006.

It has been organised to develop links between the university and the public relations industry in the East Midlands to give students an insight into the world of PR and what career opportunities are available.

The PR experts who have been invited to attend will be allocated a ‘dating’ area and every seven minutes a group of four students will visit them.

This will give both the professionals and the students the time and the opportunity to ask and respond to questions relating to the industry, and to share experiences of the public relations sector.

Steve Pembroke, student representative for the CIPR at the University of Lincoln, says one of the aims of the event is to try and increase student membership and promote the institute within the university.

“Networking is one of the primary services the CIPR offers its members,” said Steve. “This event will give students the opportunity to develop their communication skills, make contacts and ask any burning questions they might have.

Rebecca Stonham, fellow student representative and co-organiser, added: “It’s a truly interactive event that adds depth to our degree by allowing us to find out how theory relates to practice.  It also provides a great opportunity to seek work experience, sandwich year placements and even future employment.”

Among the experts attending are Steve Jackson, PR Manager for Lincolnshire County Council; Kay Stevenson, PR Manager for Kingston Communications in Hull; Sue Barnston, Communications Officer for the Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Trust and Sian woods, PR Manager for the Woodland Trust in Grantham.
