13th January 2006

An open day at the University of Lincoln next weekend (21st January) will give prospective students a chance to look round the facilities and speak to tutors.

Around 1,500 visitors are expected at the open day, which will also provide a perfect opportunity for students and their parents to find out more about student finance from September 2006.

This year’s open days place a special emphasis on the new variable tuition fees and on the bursaries and scholarships which are available for students this autumn.

From September 2006 the University of Lincoln, like most UK universities, will charge students £3,000 a year in tuition fees.

However the fees will not be payable until after students graduate, and even then only when they are earning £15,000 or more.

The University of Lincoln is offering financial support to students in the form of bursaries for those on low incomes and university and faculty scholarships.

More information about fees, bursaries and scholarships will be available at the open day, which runs from 9.30am until 4pm on Saturday 21st January.

The open day is based at Brayford Pool but for students who wish to visit the other Lincoln campuses a shuttle bus and guided tours will be provided.

As well as giving visitors the opportunity to see the facilities and talk to course tutors, the open day will feature talks for students and parents and tours of the student village.

“Our open days are always very well attended as they provide the best opportunity for students and their friends ands family to get a feel for life on campus,” said Student Recruitment Manager Karen Raynes.

“Students starting at university next September will be the first to receive the university’s generous new bursaries and scholarships and we will be happy to explain the new system to visitors at the open day.”
