A radio musical written and produced by three former students of the University of Lincoln is set to air on BBC Radio Lincolnshire this Boxing Day.

The 45-minute musical piece, ‘Cutlass Jack’, was produced by graduates Eddy Mentzel, Adam Bardwell and Paul Stanford.

“It is a charismatic and adventurous love story revolving around a character, Jack Fletcher, who is searching for freedom, but who finds himself aboard a pirate ship and falling hopelessly in love with someone he shouldn’t,” said Eddy Mentzel, director of the project.

“It is good fun for all the family and is sure to put smiles on faces across Lincolnshire.”

It has been described as a “classical masterpiece with a contemporary twist” by fellow musicians, and the musical trio received the highest grade the University of Lincoln has ever given for a production piece.

Eddy, composer and producer of ‘Cutlass Jack’, has recently set up his own music production company, Fickle Chicken, which has been working in partnership with Boosey and Hawkes, the largest specialist classical music publishing company in the world.

The BBC Radio Lincolnshire programme will feature a recently recorded interview with the graduates in which they take a look back over the project and how it came to fruition.

‘Cutlass Jack’ will air at 6pm on Monday 26th December.
