A week of Celebrations for students in Hull

Hundreds of students will be arriving in Hull over the weekend in time for the University of Lincoln’s annual Freshers’ Week which gets underway on Sunday 18th September.

To help them find their feet as they settle into university life in Hull, the Students’ Union Co-Operative has organised a week of fun-filled events kicking off with ‘The Meet’ which is an opportunity for new and returning students to get to know each other.

On Tuesday the annual Freshers’ Fayre which runs from 10am until 4pm in the Derek Crothall Building on George Street, is an opportunity to find out more about Hull and what’s on offer locally for students. There’ll be a wide range of stalls providing information on pubs and clubs, sports and leisure activities and health services.

One of the week’s highlights is a spectacular ‘Fire Poi’ or fire dance in the splendid surroundings of Queens Gardens performed by one of the university’s own students. It’s then on to Sharkeys – the university’s official Students’ Union Bar in Hull.

In addition to the night-time revelries there’ll also be plenty of opportunities for the freshers to get to know Hull better and experience some of city’s many attractions with a tour of the Old Town plus trips to the KC Stadium and Hollywood Bowl.

Student Union Vice President Education and Welfare in Hull, Kim Minshall, said: “This week is an opportunity to bring the students together to encourage a sense of community as we are only a small campus.

“It’s important that we make the students feel supported and safe whilst having fun at the same time. With a year’s worth of planning put into one week of fun, it really will be a great start to their university career.”
