UNIVERSITY APPOINTS DIRECTOR FOR CHILL

Gerry McSorley, Chief Executive of Nottingham City Hospital NHS Trust and President of the Institute of Healthcare Management, has been appointed Director of CHILL, the Centre for Health Improvement and Leadership in Lincoln.

CHILL is based on collaboration between the University of Lincoln, Trent Strategic Health Authority and other partners. Mr McSorley has been appointed for three years in the first instance.

CHILL will be a dynamic, world-class, nationally renowned centre for leadership, management and service and workforce development that will meet the needs of health and social care organisations through both ‘think tank’ activity and the delivery of workshops, courses and conferences.

It was launched in January 2005 by Dr Beverly Malone, General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing.

‘It is tremendous to have appointed such an experienced and well regarded Director of CHILL as Gerry McSorley, who I am sure will be able to translate the world-class blueprint for the centre into practice,” said Professor Mike Saks, Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Lincoln who is responsible for CHILL and the university’s other developments in health and social care.

“Mr McSorley’s experience as a high-performing chief executive at a number of hospital trusts in the East Midlands over the past 15 years should stand him in very good stead to take on this role.

“So too will his national profile in the health service management and leadership field and his personal research into organisational strategy and behaviour.”

Gerry McSorley has been Chief Executive of Derby City General Hospital and Leicester General Hospital and took up the position of President of the Institute of Healthcare Management this month.

He holds an MBA from the University of Hull and an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Management Consultancy from Henley Management College, where he is currently completing his doctorate.
