Lincoln’s traditional role as a centre for theological teaching is to be revived by the creation of the new Lincoln School of Theology.

The new school will offer part-time courses and is a partnership between the University of Lincoln, the Diocese of Lincoln, Bishop Grosseteste College, Lincoln Cathedral and the East Midlands Ministerial Training Course.  It will be located at Lincoln Cathedral but will be part of the university’s academic structure.

At 1pm on Thursday 16th December an agreement will be signed in the Chapter House at Lincoln Cathedral to put the official seal of approval on the new School.

Lincoln has been a centre of theological learning for many centuries,” said Revd Canon Dr Mike West, Director of the Lincoln School of Theology.  “The new School will maintain this tradition, resourcing the study of theology throughout the Diocese and engaging in pursuit of excellence in ministerial formation and training within the Church.”

A spokesman for the university commented: “The Lincoln School of Theology and Ministry Studies is another important development which underlines our commitment to working with partners for the benefit of the region.  We will be offering a flexible undergraduate programme for part-time students who wish to develop their understanding of Christian theology and to train for ministry, and we will also be developing a postgraduate programme of professional development.”

The Principal of Bishop Grosseteste College, Dr Muriel Robinson, said “We are very excited by this development which signals our commitment to working with the Church and the University to improve opportunities for higher education for the people of Lincolnshire.”

“Key members of our theology and religious studies team are working with Canon West to develop and deliver the School’s courses. This revives a long-standing involvement of this Anglican College in ministry studies and we are very pleased to be involved in this way.”

The Lincoln School of Theology and Ministry Studies will be offering the following awards:

·                   School of Ministry Award

·                   Certificate in Theology and Ministry Studies

·                   Diploma in Theology and Ministry Studies

·                   BA (Hons) in Theology and Ministry Studies
