The quartet in residence at the prestigious Lincoln Center in New York is to appear in Hull later this month as part of the new Hull Academy.

Pacifica, a young, dynamic string quartet, will perform at the EICH Gallery on Friday 26th November.

Formed in 1994, Pacifica has quickly achieved international stature with a host of prizes and awards, and in 2002 the ensemble was appointed resident quartet of Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society Two.

Pacifica is made up of Simin Ganatra (violin), Sibbi Bernhardsson (violin), Masumi Per Rostad (viola) and Brandon Vamos (cello).

Pacifica are one of today’s most exciting and dynamic quartets,” said Graham Oppenheimer, artistic director. “It’s great for the supporters of the series and great for the city – Pacifica are just the kind of exciting, approachable and youthful musicians that I want to bring to Hull.”

Pacifica will be performing Mendelssohn’s Quartet in A minor op 13, Ligeti’s  Quartet no 1 ‘Métamorphoses Nocturnes’ and Beethoven’s Quartet Op 131 in C# minor.

Samples of music performed at last year’s concerts in Lincoln can be heard online on the university’s web page at http://www.lincoln.ac.uk/events/concerts.html#freecd

The concert will start at 1.05pm and conclude at around 1.55pm. Admission is free to everyone, but places should be booked with Rebecca Platt to avoid disappointment. She can be contacted on (01482) 311702 or via email on RPlatt@lincoln.ac.uk.
