The University of Lincoln’s annual Latino cinema club starts next week with this year’s theme highlighting ‘Women and Machos’.

The films form part of the final-year subject matter for European Business and Marketing students and around 200 international students are expected at the showings.

The season kicks off with ‘Women on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown’, a fast-moving farce set in 1980s Madrid and the first film by acclaimed international director Pedro Almodovar.

“This year’s theme will depict tales of laughter, tears and panic,” said the university’s English languages co-ordinator Andy Daglish.

All of the films screened will be in Spanish or French with English subtitles.

The first screening is on a one-off Thursday showing on 16th September at 8pm, in the university’s Cargill, Co-op and Jackson Lecture Theatres.

Films will then be screened in the Jackson Lecture Theatre every Monday from 20th September to 15th November at 7pm. Entry is free to all showings and everyone is welcome to attend.
