A government-funded advice service for young people will be holding its annual five-a-side football tournament at the University of Lincoln this week.

Around 50 teams from the Connexions advice service will be competing from across the country, some as far away as Wiltshire, the north-east and London.

The tournament is being held in the university’s sports hall and on the Astroturf and on the five-a-side football pitch facilities.

“We are expecting more than 400 participants at the tournament, mostly made up of direct advisors from Connexions offices” said Connexions information manager John Herbert. “Out of the 47 offices we run, 42 have put teams forward to compete.

“It is an annual sporting event that employees have taken part in for over 20 years.”

The tournament is a one-day event, kicking off on Saturday 11th September at 10.30am, and will conclude with an awards ceremony in the university’s Delph Bar in the evening.
