16th July 1999

Talented illustration students Louise Ellis and John Simpson from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside, who caught the attention of the art world earlier this year, will both graduate at Hull City Hall with a 2:1.

A job in the glamorous world of publishing is on the cards for Louise who attracted the praise of judges in the Macmillan Children’s Book Competition.

Louise, 23, combined her talents of illustrating and writing to win a commendation in the national competition in May this year.

After graduating, Louise will go on the books of top London agency The Organisation who will get her portfolio firmly on the desk of all the best-known publishers, including Macmillan.

Judges were impressed by her children’s story-book ‘Helen the Human Butterfly’, about a small girl with stripy tights, bunches and a special talent which she both wrote and illustrated.

Fellow student John Simpson is another in a long line of the university’s art students who have received national recognition. Thirty-three-year-old John won the ‘Best’ category on the Student Design Yearbook 1999 for his illustration of a clown. When the book is published his work will feature on the first page.

Louise and John will both graduate on 21st July at 2.15pm.
