GRADUATES NOMINATED FOR ‘RADIO OSCARS’

Three graduates from the University of Lincoln have been nominated for the ‘Radio Oscars’.

Simon Green (28), Tom Rhys (24) and John Fox (24) have all been nominated for the 2004 Sony Radio Academy Awards.

Simon is up for the Daily Music Show of the Year award for the show ‘Sam Heywood in the Afternoon’ which he produces at Viking FM.  He faces competition from ‘Drivetime’ (Classic FM), ‘Lunchtime with Ace and Invisible’ (BBC 1Xtra), ‘Robin Banks’ (Kiss 100) and ‘The Chris Moyles Show’ (BBC Radio 1).

Viking FM’s Foxy and Tom have been nominated for the highly prized accolade of Breakfast Show of the Year for ‘Foxy and Tom at Breakfast’. They face competition from ‘Christian O’ Connell’s Breakfast Show’ (XFM), ‘JK & Joel @ Breakfast’ (Key 103), ‘Today In Norfolk’ (BBC Radio Norfolk) and ‘Wake Up To Wogan’ (BBC Radio 2).

Simon studied Communications at the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside in Hull and graduated in 1998.   He was the Vice President of the Students’ Union Co-operative between 1998-99.

“I'm very privileged and proud to be nominated for a Sony award,” he said.

“Our category includes national broadcasters with years and years of experience behind them. They also have the kind of resources that a relatively small station like Viking FM can only dream of, so it's a very interesting group to be included in.”

Foxy and Tom graduated with degrees in Media Production and Journalism respectively from the University of Lincoln in 2001.

               .

And they are no strangers to winning awards – they received the NTL Commercial Radio Newcomer of the Year award in 2002 for their work at Viking FM.

The winners of the Sony Radio Academy Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony on Wednesday 12th May at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
