University staff are busy training for Hull’s Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Staff in various departments at the University of Lincoln in Hull will be running or walking in the national event on Sunday 9th May under the team name ‘Minerva Marvels’.

Many of the team members are running in memory of friends, family and colleagues who had or who are living with cancer.

“The main reason given by members of the team for doing the Race for Life was the need to raise money to continue research into all forms of cancer,” said Susan Oliver, project manager in the Hull School of Health and Social Care.

“As a group of women we recognise how easily cancer could affect us all.  One member of the team has experienced the fear that accompanies having a biopsy and the relief of hearing the all clear.

“Several members of the team have done the Race for Life in previous years and others have wanted to do this for several years.  Being part of a team has encouraged others to join in.

“We are pleased to have been supported by the university who have provided us with team t-shirts.”

If you would like to sponsor the ‘Minerva Marvels’ please contact Susan Oliver on 01482 311239.

Race For Life is a national series of 5km fundraising walks and runs which raise money for research into cancers that affect women.
