23rd April 2004

Over 50 local riders will take part in an equine competition at Riseholme Park tomorrow (Saturday).

The competition is being organised by second-year National Diploma students at the University of Lincoln as part of their Horse Management studies.

The event will take place between 9am and 5pm on Saturday 24th April.

Eighteen further and higher education equine students at the university took the British Horse Society stage one exam on Wednesday – and all passed with flying colours.

This was the first time the exam was taken at Riseholme Park as until 2001 equine courses were taught at Caythorpe.

Staff at Riseholme are anxiously awaiting the birth of a rare breed Cleveland Bay foal.

Dorothy, the expectant mare in question, was due to give birth on Monday and is now four days overdue.

The foal will be the eighth born as part of the university’s Cleveland Bay breeding programme.
