Riders from the University of Lincoln are on their way to the British Universities Equestrian Championship Finals.

The university’s equestrian team qualified for the national competition after winning their regional finals held at Bishop Burton College.

The team faced competition from Bishop Burton College, Manchester University, York St John College and others to make it to through to the final.

In the regional competition each individual performs a dressage round on a different horse followed by a show jumping round.

Team member Nikki Tucker put in a magnificent individual performance, claiming first place after the dressage stage.

Team captain Jessica Glasow and team members Jenny Macaskill and Hayley Mackintosh also had great individual performances, meaning that they all qualify for the national finals.

The national finals will be held at Field House Equestrian Centre, Uttoxeter between Tuesday 6th April and Thursday 8th April 2004.

“The teamwork throughout all competition stages really gave us an edge over our competitors,” said Jessica.  “The whole team, including our coach Sharon Kirby and reserve Jess Robinson, worked really hard throughout to secure a great victory for Lincoln.”

Riders in Lincoln achieved further success when the Further Education team at Riseholme came a close second at Warwickshire College’s annual FE riding competition.

The Lincoln team, which consisted of Rebecca Ritchie, Lindy Blanchard, Laura Drew and Sophie Cain, finished just behind the home team.

Teams from all over UK took part in the competition which involved dressage and jumping and a quiz for the top six teams.
