Members of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) joined staff and students at the Hull Centre for Management Development at the University of Lincoln last month.
CIPD advisor Martyn Sloman led the learning event entitled ‘Helping People Learn’ at the university’s new facilities in George Street Hull on Wednesday 11th February 2004.
Martyn is an honorary professor at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, an honorary teaching fellow at Birkbeck College, University of London and an Industrial Fellow at Kingston Business School.
This is the first time that the university has hosted a learning event for the Humber branch of the CIPD.
“The university wishes to show its commitment to professional development within Hull through the Hull Centre for Management Development,” said Kate Plumb, principal lecturer in Human Resource Management.
“Members of the local CIPD branch support our students through contributing to seminars and supporting placement events such as the networking day held recently at our offices in George Street.”
Graduates and students joined local human resource managers and management development professionals in the event.
Students are required to be members of the CIPD upon registering for the masters degree programme and during the final year of the undergraduate programme in HRM.
The local Humber Branch also sponsors prizes for the best student at each level of the masters degree programme and for the final level of the undergraduate programme.
The next CIPD event is on Thursday 18th March. The all-day workshop on employment Law will be led by Olga Aitkin and will take place at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Willerby.
