A new company launched on campus aims to make the most of the media facilities and expertise at the University of Lincoln.
Minerva Productions – named after the Roman goddess of learning who appears on the university’s logo – offers media training, media communications consultancy, e-learning training and media facilities hire to businesses and organisations across the east midlands.
Boston-born media graduate Kay Marriott, who graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2000 with a degree in Media Production, has been recruited to head up the new venture.
“We’re going to be delivering excellence by expertise,” said Kay, who has three years’ experience as a manager for Tesco.
“Our aim is to increase awareness of what the university can do for business and the community and what it can offer in terms of media and communications.
“Through Minerva Productions we will be getting our academics out in the community and in commerce and industry rather than just teaching in a closed environment.”
Minerva Productions is already talking to business and organisations such as the Lincoln Co-op about media training.
And Kay is certain that interest in hiring the university’s media facilities – including two TV studios, three radio studios, a multitrack recording studio and a range of digital editing suites – will be high.
“The equipment in the university’s Media Production Centre is absolutely fantastic – better than what’s available in most commercial TV studios,” she said.
“Our media facilities are something of an undiscovered gem which we are keen to open up to businesses and organisations in the region.”
