The film crew producing a video of this summer’s University of Lincoln graduation ceremonies will get a certain sense of déjà vu when the cameras start rolling in Lincoln Cathedral.
That’s because just a year ago Katie Nial and Luisa Cacioppo were themselves graduating at the cathedral with degrees in Media Production from the university.
Katie (22) and Luisa (21) set up video production company Media 360 after they graduated – and the university where they trained is now one of their new clients.
“No-one produced a video of our graduation ceremony so we thought we’d approach the university’s events office and suggest that we do the job for them,” said Katie, who is originally from Northamptonshire.
“It’s a new venture for us. The only other live event we do is weddings - all our other work is for corporate clients such as Lindum Construction, Simons Group and the Lincolnshire Fire Brigade.”
Katie and Luisa, who comes from Middlesbrough, plan to take two media students on work experience to help them with the ceremonies.
They’ve already taken 150 advance orders and expect more business from the 2,000 students who will be graduating this month in Lincoln and Hull.
“The university’s graduation ceremonies are a very big event for us so we’re quite excited and also slightly nervous!” said Katie.
Media 360 was one of seven new media companies which started life last October in Sparkhouse Studios, the university’s media incubator centre on Ropewalk.
At present the centre houses ten small businesses and managers expect the total to rise to 18 by the time the development is complete in the middle of next year.
Lincoln ceremonies take place on 29th, 30th and 31st July; Hull ceremonies take place on 23rd and 24th July.
