Do you have memories of Lincolnshire Shows of years gone by?
Do you remember the days when the annual event moved around the county from one venue to the next?
Can you recall what visitors to the show got up to in the old days? If so a history expert at the University of Lincoln wants to hear from you.
Dr Andrew Walker, a history lecturer based at the Brayford Pool campus, is
researching the Lincolnshire Show, looking particularly at its history from the 19th century until its move to the permanent showground in the 1950s.
He wants to hear from those who have memories of past shows to help him build up a picture of the county’s favourite annual event.
“I’m interested in hearing from individuals who have experience of going to the show prior to the move to the current showground, when the show moved around the county on an annual basis,” said Andrew.
“I’m hoping to examine the social side of the event as much as the agricultural.”
Among the questions Andrew wants to answer are:
Andrew is also keen to view records of the event such as photographs, particularly those from before the 1950s.
