A student at the University of Lincoln is being hailed as the next big thing after top magazines have given his music rave reviews.
Lee Rickers (20), a second-year Journalism and English undergraduate, has recently had his demo tapes reviewed in Rhythm magazine and NME.
“Chill out to this and you'll never wake up,” said NME on 25th January 2003.
“Real talent... a 19-year-old brimming with ideas, 8/10, ” said Rhythm magazine.
Lee plays regular live gigs at the university’s student bar - The Delph. His next show is on the 29th May and he has also featured on the university radio station - SIREN FM.
“I’ve always been in a band, but just before university our band split up,” he says, “I decided to try it on my own and do some acoustic solo stuff.”
Becky Midgely (21), also a Journalism student at the University of Lincoln, sings with Lee – they met at university a few years ago and have written songs and performed together ever since.
“I mainly play acoustic, depressing, soulful and ambient stuff. It’s chilling out music,” Lee says.
“We recorded the demo in a studio last summer and sent them out to different record labels – that’s how we got our reviews in Rhythm magazine and NME.
“I want to finish my degree, but if I was offered a recording contract I’d jump at the chance.”
