Five members of staff from the University of Lincoln in Hull will make a splash for charity next week by swimming a mile to raise money for ChildLine.

Kathy Poskitt, Carol Wade, Louise Morris, Karen Sanderson and Brenda Rees all work at the Hull Campus Office based at Cottingham Road.

They will each swim a mile on Tuesday (20th May) at the Albert Avenue swimming baths in Hull as part of the Sharron Davies Mile Swim Challenge.

And their ambition is to complete the equivalent of a cross-Channel swim by eventually clocking up 22 miles in the Sharron Davies Channel Challenge.

“Most of us swim once a week so we’re quite confident we’ll manage it,” said Kathy, who is Hull centre administrator based at Cottingham Road.

“Our ambition eventually is to complete the Channel Challenge swim for charity.”

ChildLine (0800 11 11) is the UK’s free, 24-hour helpline for children in trouble or danger which was set up by the TV presenter Esther Rantzen in 1986.

Over 950 volunteers provide a counselling service but lack of funds means that only around 3,500 of the 15,000 calls made daily can be answered.

The five ladies will be swimming at lunchtime on Tuesday.

If you would like to sponsor them contact Kathy on 01482 463624.
