A county MP will be expounding his political ideas to students at the University of Lincoln tomorrow (Friday).


Edward Leigh, Conservative MP for Gainsborough, will meet students from the Faculty of Social Sciences & Law at lunchtime tomorrow.


Mr Leigh will explain his political philosophy and tell students why he decided to become an MP.


Edward Leigh contested Teesside Middlesbrough in the October l974 General Election and was elected as MP for Gainsborough & Horncastle in the June l983 General Election.


He was Joint Secretary of the Conservative Parliamentary Defence Committee and the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee from 1983-85 and worked in the private office of Mrs Thatcher from l976-77 as private secretary in charge of her correspondence as Leader of the Opposition.

From 1990 to 1993 he was a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Trade and Industry. He is currently a member of the Social Security Select Committee and Joint Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee.


The guest lecture will be held between at 12 noon and 1pm on Friday 4th April in seminar room 1001B in the Learning Resource Centre at the Brayford Pool campus.
