A lucky student from the University of Lincoln in Hull has just completed a two-week date with the Geordie comedy duo Ant and Dec.

Final-year Media Technology student Jagjit Khela landed a plum work experience placement at LWT Granada Television helping out on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Take Away and Dennis Norden’s Laughter Files.

Jagjit (23) from Rochdale, Lancashire spent the two-week placement working with the television production team.

The role, which began on March 10th, involved various behind-the-scenes operations such as working with the audience, carrying out research with the producer and looking after the celebrities in the dressing rooms.

“It was a really good work experience and I found out a lot about how things work in the industry,” said Jag. “Plus I got to meet Ant and Dec, Gareth Gates, Brotherhood of Man and Dennis Norden.

“At one point during rehearsals I had to act as a stand-in for the Jim’ll Fix It section of the programme and I had little Ant and Dec throwing tomato sauce at me!”

Known as Tyneside’s funniest showbiz duo, the pair began their careers as PJ and Duncan on the children’s programme Byker Grove and have since been successful both in singing and in presenting TV shows such as ITV’s Pop Idol and their own Ant and Dec Show.
