The Animal Welfare Minister Elliot Morley MP will open the University of Lincoln’s newest facility later this month.
The university has invested £2 million in a new Rural Science Centre at Riseholme Park which is now the focus for agriculture, animal and outdoor recreation-related teaching and research at the university.
Elliot Morley, who is MP for Scunthorpe and an alumnus of the University of Lincoln (then Humberside College of HE), will perform an official opening ceremony for the new facility on Friday 24th January 2003.
Last summer the University of Lincoln relocated staff and students from the Caythorpe campus and consolidated the Lincolnshire School of Agriculture at its new headquarters at Riseholme Park.
Mr Morley will arrive in the morning and be given a tour of the new facilities, including stables, kennels, lecture rooms, the small animals centre and the indoor training area, before officially opening the new buildings at 12.15pm.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming the Minister, who I am sure will be impressed by what we have achieved here in a very short space of time,” said Clive Bound, Director of Riseholme Park.
“The animal and equine students are delighted with the new facilities and were involved right from the outset in making the unit their own.”
Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend the event, which begins at Riseholme Park at 11am on 24th January (lunch at 12.30pm).
